This large rectangular pendant, crafted in Multan, belongs to the classic group of ornaments decorated with powdered glass set into the surface of the silver. The central part of the composition features a stylised floral motif enclosed within a geometric frame composed of repeating borders, which form a characteristic ornamental pattern known from the regional craftsmanship of southern Punjab.

The dominant deep cobalt colour is one of the most recognisable features of Multan jewellery. The intense background contrasts with the light pattern of the floral ornament, reminiscent of the decorations found in traditional Multan pottery and in the region’s sacred architecture, where similar motifs served as elements of a symbolic protective composition.

The upper edge of the pendant is fitted with a row of loops for hanging on a ribbon, cord or metal necklace component, whilst the lower part is finished with a row of small bells. This distinctive detail serves not only a decorative function – moving elements were traditionally an important component of tribal and ceremonial jewellery, enhancing the presence of the ornament through sound and movement.

The decoration technique involves the manual setting of powdered glass into grooved areas of the silver, which gives the surface a matt, mineral-like quality and ensures the colour remains highly durable. The precise borders surrounding the central panel attest to the craftsmanship and the well-preserved structure of the ornament.

The shape of the pendant suggests it was intended as part of a larger necklace composition or as an ornament for regional costume. Rectangular ornamental plates of this type were among the most representative elements of Multan jewellery and today stand as a clear example of Pakistan’s local jewellery tradition.
