Authentic collection of five ancient Roman glass bottles dating from approximately the 1st to the 3rd century AD. Each vessel was individually hand-blown, making every example unique in shape, wall thickness, and craftsmanship. Visible chips, missing fragments, mineral deposits, and iridescent weathering are not defects but genuine evidence of their remarkable age and centuries spent beneath the ground.

Most Roman glass available on today's collectors' market originates from territories of the former Roman Empire and regions connected by the ancient trade routes of the Near East and Central Asia. Afghanistan occupied an important position along the historic Silk Road, where Roman glass, precious stones, spices, and luxury goods were traded between the Mediterranean world, Persia, India, and China. The present collection comes from Afghanistan, and the bottles are estimated to be approximately 1,700–2,000 years old.

One of the most fascinating characteristics of ancient Roman glass is its naturally weathered surface. Over many centuries, minerals in the surrounding soil gradually interacted with the glass, creating soft iridescence, creamy patina, and beautiful shades of green and turquoise. These effects develop naturally over long periods of burial and are highly appreciated by collectors as unmistakable signs of authentic ancient glass.

Small vessels like these were commonly used throughout the Roman world to hold perfumes, aromatic oils, cosmetics, medicinal preparations, and precious ointments.
