This tribal necklace in the form of a richly decorated panel was handcrafted by women of the Kalash tribe from the Kalash Valley in northern Pakistan. The structure is densely covered with small glass seed beads in vivid traditional colors – dominant yellows, reds, and greens that reflect the authentic Kalash aesthetic. A small mirror set in the center serves both decorative and symbolic purposes.

In Kalash culture, mirrors incorporated into garments were believed to offer protection by reflecting away negative energy and the “evil eye.” Such panels formed part of ceremonial female attire and were worn during festivals, rites of passage, family celebrations, and religious events. The intense color palette expressed joy, identity, and belonging within the community.

The panel measures approximately 30 cm in length and was worn on the chest, suspended around the neck as a beaded breast ornament.
