Afghan box pendant with bells

A rectangular pendant crafted in the form of a lockable box, characteristic of Afghan tribal jewelry. The front is decorated with an embossed plant ornament enclosed in a geometric frame with a rhythmic border. The composition is symmetrical, set within a clear, strong outline, giving the entire piece a balanced structure.

The upper part is finished with four massive handles allowing the pendant to be hung on a thick cord or metal chain. The box shape suggests an amulet function – such pendants were sometimes used to store small objects of symbolic meaning.

The lower edge is decorated with chains topped with metal bells. These elements move freely and produce a distinctive, muffled sound with every movement. In tribal jewelry, sound played a protective and ceremonial role, as well as emphasizing the wearer's presence.

The metal surface has a natural patina, abrasions, and minor signs of use. The unevenness in the embossing and finish is the result of handcrafted work. The pendant is not a lightweight accessory – it's a distinctive, raw element that looks best as a central accent in a unique ethnic composition.
