Afghan Cascade Ceremonial Earrings
Afghan Cascade Ceremonial Earrings
Traditional Afghan earrings distinguished by their monumental form and considerable weight. They were handcrafted from brass with a silver-toned, naturally aged finish that emphasises their raw tribal character.
A dense cascade of hand-linked chains descends from the large fastening wire. Numerous teardrop-shaped and triangular ornaments hang from the chains, creating an irregular and richly layered composition.
The most striking details are the red, green and blue glass pieces held in serrated settings. Large triangular plaques feature embossed floral patterns, while the smaller pendants display motifs inspired by traditional Afghan metalwork.
The earrings are extremely heavy and intended primarily for ceremonial dress, brief wear, display or collecting. The metal elements sway and produce a pronounced sound with movement. Patina, uneven surfaces and differences between individual details are natural results of handcrafting.
