Monumental Afghan Ceremonial Earrings

Monumental Afghan earrings representing one of the most elaborate forms of traditional tribal jewellery. Their impressive length and extreme weight make them closer to ceremonial costume ornaments than contemporary earrings intended for everyday wear.

The main section consists of a large triangular brass plaque covered with embossed ornamentation and coloured glass accents. A large purple centrepiece dominates the composition, accompanied by smaller red, green and blue details.

An elaborate cascade of hand-linked chains descends from the main body. Numerous teardrop and diamond-shaped pendants move independently, producing a pronounced metallic sound and a spectacular effect with every movement.

The pair weighs approximately one hundred and fifty grams, making these earrings exceptionally heavy and unsuitable for ordinary extended wear. They are best suited as collector’s pieces, ceremonial costume elements, stage accessories or distinctive decorations. Patina, uneven surfaces and traces of handwork are natural features of the traditional construction.
