Large Balochi Bead
Large Balochi Bead
Large Balochi bead is a substantial spherical component originating from traditional tribal jewellery. Broad tubular openings at both ends allow it to be strung onto a thick cord, leather strap or the structure of a large necklace.
The entire surface is covered with hand-engraved geometric ornamentation. Diagonal lines, dots, crosshatched sections and rhythmically divided panels create a raw composition associated with the traditional decorative arts of South and Central Asia.
The brass surface retains natural patina, darker marks within the engraved areas, local abrasions and green traces of oxidation. Visible irregularities, joining marks and variations in the depth of the patterns reflect its handmade construction.
The bead can become the centrepiece of a substantial necklace, an ornament for tribal clothing or a distinctive base for original ethnic jewellery. It is also an appealing collector’s example of Balochi craftsmanship from the borderlands of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran.
