Multan Ethnic Ring – Silver with Blue Glass – Pakistan
Multan Ethnic Ring – Silver with Blue Glass – Pakistan
This traditional ring, made in Multan, belongs to a distinctive regional group of jewellery decorated with powdered glass. The band is covered with a decorative band in intense cobalt blue with accents of turquoise, red and yellow, creating a composition typical of the workshops of southern Punjab.
The central floral motif is framed by a symmetrical ornamental pattern running around the entire circumference of the band. An additional side tab, finished with a small decorative element, is a characteristic design feature found in Multan rings and makes it easy to recognise their regional origin.
The decoration technique involves embedding powdered glass into the surface of the silver, giving the ornament a matt, mineral-like texture and deep colours. The colours remain clear and well-preserved, and the piece retains the consistent character of traditional functional jewellery.
The slightly slimmer band gives the ring a more subtle profile than larger examples of this type, whilst retaining the full decorative quality typical of Multan pieces. This is a classic example of Pakistan’s regional jewellery craftsmanship, featuring the recognisable coloured glass ornamentation.
