Roman Glass – Dark Venetian Glass Beads - 6 mm
Roman Glass – Dark Venetian Glass Beads - 6 mm
These beads are made from historical glass known as Roman glass, naturally aged over centuries. Their darker color palette reflects both the original glass composition and prolonged exposure to soil, moisture, and minerals. The matte surface and irregular edges are inherent qualities of this material.
This type of glass was repeatedly reused and re-melted in regions such as Venice and the Middle East. Today it appears under trade names including Roman glass, Venetian glass, or Gabri glass, all referring to the same reclaimed historical material.
The beads are shaped as thin, irregular discs and strung on strands approximately 40 cm long. Each strand features a unique mix of deep greens, subdued blues, and earthy grey tones, making every piece distinct.
This material is especially suited for jewelry with a heavier, more archaic aesthetic — necklaces, collars, and bracelets inspired by archaeological finds and traditional craftsmanship.
