Afghan Taweez Amulet Pendant

Taweez (ta’wiz) is a traditional amulet worn in Afghanistan and across Central and South Asian border regions. It is not merely decorative jewelry, but an object with protective and symbolic meaning. The cylindrical form contains a small, closable compartment intended for prayers, written charms, or personal talismans.

The surface is adorned with colorful glass inlays in green, red, and deep cobalt blue, set into decorative mounts. Repoussé work and fine metal details give the piece a compact, reliquary-like appearance. The naturally aged metal adds depth and emphasizes its handcrafted, ethnic origin.

The lower section features a cascade of chains finished with embossed metal plaques. These elements move freely, creating subtle sound and motion with every step. This is a classic feature of Afghan amulet jewelry, combining visual richness with symbolic presence.

The pendant works best on a simple chain or leather cord as a strong central element of a tribal or ethnic necklace. It is designed for those who value jewelry with history, meaning, and authenticity rather than purely ornamental forms.
