Volcanic Obsidian Ring

This ring is crafted from natural obsidian – one of the most distinctive stones of volcanic origin. Unlike most minerals, obsidian does not form crystals. It forms when heated lava cools so quickly that the mineral structure does not have time to form. This gives the stone the appearance of natural glass, with an exceptionally smooth surface and a deep luster.

In this design, the obsidian has taken on a classic oval cabochon shape. The stone is clearly convex and relatively high, giving the ring a more sculptural character. When held up to the light, the stone's surface reflects reflections reminiscent of a calm water surface, while maintaining its uniform, black color.

The setting is crafted from sterling silver. The smooth, wide frame surrounding the stone highlights its shape and gives the ring a modern character. The band is adjustable, allowing it to easily fit a variety of finger sizes while maintaining the stability of the stone.

Obsidian has been used by humans for thousands of years. Archaeologists have found tools made of this stone in many ancient cultures, from the Mediterranean to Central America. Thanks to its natural smoothness and ability to achieve an extremely sharp edge, it was one of the most valuable materials of the Stone Age.
