Double Turkmen Bead
Double Turkmen Bead
Double Turkmen Bead consists of two large spherical sections joined by a short central tube. Openings at both ends allow it to be strung onto a thick cord, leather strap or the structure of an elaborate necklace.
Each sphere is encircled by a decorative band made from several rows of twisted wire. The restrained ornamentation emphasises the rounded form and gives the bead the raw character of traditional Turkmen tribal jewellery.
The brass surface retains dark patina, abrasions, discolouration and green traces of oxidation. The terminals display wear and local deformation, while minor differences in shape reflect its handmade construction.
The bead can become the centrepiece of a substantial necklace, serve as a decorative connector or form the basis of an original Turkmen, tribal or boho jewellery design. It is also an appealing collector’s example of traditional Central Asian craftsmanship.
