Volcanic Glass Ring
Volcanic Glass Ring
This large silver ring is handmade in India from natural black obsidian. The stone has an intensely glassy surface and a smooth, deep color reminiscent of freshly solidified volcanic glass. Its slightly elongated shape lends an elegant touch, while its subtly rounded shape allows light to gently glide across the cabochon's surface.
The obsidian is set in .925 sterling silver and surrounded by a decorative rim of fine silver protrusions, giving the ring a more artisanal, traditional look. The band is adjustable, allowing the ring to fit a variety of finger sizes. This ensures comfort while maintaining a sturdy structure.
The history of obsidian dates back to prehistoric times. This natural volcanic glass was used to craft some of the earliest blades and tools, as its edges can be incredibly sharp. In ancient Mexico and Central America, it was also used to make mirrors and ceremonial objects, prized for its extraordinary shine and almost perfectly smooth surface.
The large cabochon in this ring makes the stone look like a fragment of solidified lava polished by nature and man. The simple silver setting allows the focus to be on the mineral itself, ensuring the jewelry remains expressive, yet elegant and timeless.
